WORK EXPERIENCE

YEAR 10 STUDENTS - 5 Dec - 16 Dec - make arrangements now so you have a choice
 
YEAR 11 STUDENTS - 4 July - 8 July - an induction and a Work Experience package will be given out in Week 9

 

Information for Parents/Caregivers
  • Prior to work placements, the students will undertake an inducton program. This will cover:
    • OHS&W
    • EO
    • Children's Protection Act

    And will make them aware o f their roles, responsibilities and rights.

  • Work Experience packages will be given out during this programmme.

  • Home Group teachers will contact the employer during Work Experience to check on their welfare and progress.
  •  

Parent/Caregivers Responsibibity

  • Ensure safe conduct for any travel arrangements
  • Provide consent on WE form
  • Discuss any concerns with the schools VET/Work Ed. Coordinator in regard to WE
  • Talk about what their child learnt from the WE placement

Insurance

  • Government schools cover students by a personal accidents scheme. However, students who sustain personal injury attributable to direct or indirect, serious or wilful misconduct on their part, may not receive payment.
  • Public Liability - covers up to a maximum of $15million for property or third party bodily harm arising from neglect of students.

Workplace Provider

  • Covers damage or injury caused to third part caused by student but which resulted from Workplace providers negligence eg. lack of supervision
How to successfully achieve Work Experience Credit
  • Attend Work Experience and let employer and school know if the student is sick
  • Get employer to fill in the Key Competency form
  • Fill in the student log book or write an essay
  • Return both log book and Key Competency form to WE office on the return from Work Experience

WORK EXPERIENCE PROCESS

 

  1. Collect form from Work Experience Office in Student Information Centre
  2. Ring work places where you would like to do your WE (You organize your own placement)
  3. If problems getting WE see the WE office for some ideas
  4. Make sure that the form is signed by the employer, parent and student
  5. Return form to WE office
  6. Before going out on WE you must:
    1. Undergo an Induction programme
    2. Get a WE package
    3. Otherwise you are not covered by insurance
  7. Return Log Book and Key Competency Record sheet to WE office after WE so that it is recorded for Graduation purposes

TRANSITION PLAN

Please download this form and save on your machine or USB.

The Transition Plan must be filled out by all students from Years 8-12. It will be accessed at school; however, if a student wishes to work on it at home then this copy is available.

All students who leave school need to fill in the Exit Plan and give a copy to the school.

If you are interested in a short course that will give you SACE points or qualifications handy for a job or TAFE course, see the VET/Work Ed Coordinator. These courses run either for a term, semester or full year. There is usually a cost involved. All courses need to be paid for prior to attending.
